QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) is a suicide prevention training program designed to teach individuals how to recognize warning signs of suicidal behavior, approach someone in crisis, and connect them with appropriate professional help. The 1-hour training equips participants to question a person about suicidal thoughts in a sensitive and direct manner, persuade them to seek assistance by offering hope and alternatives to suicide, and refer them to mental health resources, crisis centers, or other services. Similar to CPR for physical emergencies, QPR provides a straightforward, evidence-based protocol that empowers ordinary people to intervene during mental health crises. The training is widely implemented in schools, workplaces, healthcare settings, and communities, with the goal of creating networks of "gatekeepers" who can identify and support individuals at risk before a suicide attempt occurs.
The Tennessee Suicide Prevention Network (TSPN) is a statewide organization that trains community-based organizations and businesses on how to recognize the warning signs of suicide and how to respond when people may be at risk of suicidal thoughts and behavior.
TSPN provides information on research-informed practices and community resources and coordinates postvention services. Our dedication to suicide prevention in Tennessee dates back 25 years.
