Most health insurance plans are required by federal law to cover treatment and services for mental health and substance abuse services as they would for physical health, with no limitations or extra requirements. But not all plans comply. This webinar will educate people on how to identify violations and file a complaint or an appeal for coverage.

Presenter: Alisa LaPolt, BS

Alisa grew up in Greeneville, Tenn., and graduated from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville with a bachelor’s degree in communications. She was a political, government, and policy reporter for news outlets including the former Nashville Banner, the Associated Press in Madison, Wis., and Gannett News Service (now the USA Today Network) in Tallahassee, Fla.

In Florida, she founded a lobbying and public relations firm that championed children’s health and early education, mental health, consumer rights and access to insurance, and other issues for clients including the Florida Nurses Association. She later served as Executive Director of NAMI Florida and eventually Director of Policy and Advocacy for NAMI Tennessee.

Alisa is president of Alisa LaPolt Consulting, a Nashville-based company that provides communications, advocacy, and strategic development for individuals and businesses seeking to achieve better outcomes and amplify their impact. Her clients include the Tennessee Suicide Prevention Network and Tennessee Association of Alcohol, Drug, and other Addiction Services.
