This TAADAS Codependency training is intended to offer support for those who are current Certified Peer Recovery Specialists (CPRS) and/or those who provide services on CPRS inclusive treatment teams. Facilitators will provide education to practical understanding of the prevalence of codependency in professional and personal settings. Boundaries are easily crossed with peers who have unmet codependency needs. Triangulation occurs when trying to win the others over to gain camaraderie not inclusive of certain persons. Codependents use triangulation to seek attention and a need for connection that is not gained in other avenues of their lives. Manipulation and playing on codependent others can be exaggerated to the point of rendering the other person powerless and low morale in the workplace. Inadvertent rendering the person dependent upon approval to feel whole in recovery. In recovery peers begin to acknowledge, gain awareness, and change codependent thoughts and behaviors by positive self-talk and other coping mechanisms.
CPRS’s who incorporate education in differing areas build a knowledge base of intuitive self-awareness thus increases the long-term commitment to the occupation. This training will explore and differentiate the skills and training issues unique to CPRS staff. CPRS staff work in many different roles with many different type programs – each has unique issues that make it necessary to have self-awareness and healthy professional boundaries.
